A Bevvy of Borscht Belt Beauties: It’s Sullivan County Week!
Kandy Harris | June 29, 2015Dear Sullivan County:
Oh, how we’ve missed you. Sorry for being a bad friend lately. We’ve just been so caught up in the real estate happenings in the rest of the Upstater area that we’ve neglected all of your awesome, affordable offerings. It’s not that we haven’t been thinking about you. When we posted about the Kutsher’s documentary a couple of weeks ago and continue to learn more about the new yoga retreat center that’s going in its place, you’ve been on our minds quite a bit these days. So many changes taking place, between casino plans and old resort demolition and a tourist revival in the Catskill Mountains. Can you keep up, Sullivan County? Yes, we think you can. Times have been hard with an uncertain future spread out before you in the past, but the word is out now about the Catskills. In fact, some nightlife “guru” was quoted in the NY Post recently about how the Hamptons were dead and it’s all about the Catskills now. These are strange but exciting times for you, Sullivan County, and we’re going to be watching it unfold right along with you.
Meanwhile, we’re going to spend this week admiring your housing stock, Sullivan County, of which there is certainly no short supply. In addition to the usual lot of five-figure seasonal lake houses, farmhouses, and inexpensive diamonds-in-the-rough, there are lots of repossessed properties on the auction block, and that makes us feel sad. However, you never know when someone is going to swoop in and rescue a few from bank ownership. Maybe it could be one of our very smart (and very good-looking, too!) readers.
All the Best,
Upstater.com
