A High Falls Tribute to Modernity and Stunning Views, $1.15 million
Kandy Harris | June 10, 2015
Full disclosure: At first, we looked at this listing thinking it was a shipping container house. Alas, it is not, which is completely fine, because we love how it looks, anyway. It’s certainly not the most affordable house in the bunch, but that won’t stop our fantasizing about living here among all that natural beauty. As far as the look of the house is concerned, some might argue that its minimalist sensibility is too cold and emotionless. Sharp corners, no frills, and the granite/stainless steel combo in the kitchen don’t help soften things at all. We get this sensibility, though, especially set against a backdrop of the Shawangunk Ridge and Mohonk. Look all the windows. They’re meant to make the outside the focal point of the property, an outside that doesn’t need to be improved upon. We love a funky, quirky abode just as much as the next real estate-obsessed person, but given the choice, we’ll take the minimalist approach with stunning views of the Hudson Valley and Catskills any day of the week. The price, tag, however…well, not our favorite aspect of the house, but given it’s a 4000 square foot space with custom baths and hickory floors on over 6 acres, maybe it’s not so bad. The views alone are worth $2 million.
