A Swap Meet for Upstate Foodies

  |  January 23, 2013

Anyone up here heard of food swaps? It’s when a group of foodies, amateur chefs and artisinal chow makers get together with batches of their delicious goods and swap them for the creations of others.

Now there’s an upstate version: Hudson Valley Swappers. A little background per their Facebook page: “The Hudson Valley Swappers are a group that will get together every few months to swap homemade, or homegrown foods! If you bake, can/preserve, brew beer, cook, or grow food and would like to trade the fruits of your labor for other delectable, homemade foods, then come to our next swap event!”

And here’s an idea of what they’re looking for: “Home-canned vegetables and fruits, pickles, jams, chutneys, jellies, vinegars, kombucha, cheeses, breads, cakes, starters, honey, granola, homegrown herbs and vegetables, foraged foods, handmade sausages, backyard eggs, soups, spreads…any food item you’ve made and packaged to share!”

Send ’em an email to get on their mailing list.

Also, if you’re traveling and want to find a food swap elsewhere, check out the Food Swap Network site. And, yes, we do wholeheartedly endorse the Peanut Butter Vinaigrette.
