A Year-and-a-Half Later: Newburgh Bank/Karpeles Museum Still For Sale, $1.6 million
Kandy Harris | April 17, 2015
Remember when we posted about this incredible building back in 2013? Well, it’s still on the market at the same price, and it’s still a museum. A manuscript museum, as a matter of fact, and we’re adding it to our ever-growing list of Things to Do in Newburgh. Manuscripts are cool enough, but we’re in it for the interior, which calls back to time when banks occasionally resembled churches (coincidence?). The glass and woodwork inside the board room alone is worth the price of admission, and the 16,000 square foot, c.1923 building includes safes/vaults and office spaces, as well as a view of the river from some windows. We would own a piece of Newburgh history if we could. Who’s going to finally jump all over this grand piece of architecture? Someone who can afford an $80,000/year tax bill, most likely.
Square Feet: 16,167
Lot Size: .23 acres
Taxes: $81,000
