Chic Country Compound in Woodstock

Disclaimer: So we’re sharing this rental gem with the outside world because it is our job after all, but we’d like to be perfectly frank – if our plan to win the lottery goes off without a hitch, the Upstater team will be renting both homes of the Bearsville Retreat into perpetuity. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy your stay in scenic Woodstock.
Price/night: $250-$300
Accommodations: Full house, 3 bedrooms
Max guests: 6
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
As if the deep bathtubs at the Bearsville Retreat are not relaxing enough, the property is also just a short drive from a good long hike at Minnewaska State Park, or for those of us who require total silence to clear out the clutter in our brains, two Buddhist monasteries. The main house features a brand new kitchen, two bedrooms, and an elegant wood-lined dining room. The guest house has its own bedroom, dining area, and flat screen TV as well, just in case you require a retreat from the retreat. The ski lodge atmosphere in both homes is comfy and sophisticated, kind of like Denzel Washington in house form, and the calendar of this popular rental fills quickly, just like Denzel Washington’s schedule…er…if he was a house? Well, we tried. Just check it out for yourself.

Sample reviews:

“This has, by far and away, been the best place I have stayed Upstate. If you want a place that’s as peaceful as it is well-decorated (I’m talking to you, picky New Yorkers), then the Bearsville Retreat is for you. The owners have made great renovations, changing all the bathrooms and kitchens on the property so that it feels clean and new. The pool is surrounded by trees and the property is secluded, save for a gorgeous view of a farmhouse in the distance. Not one complaint.”

“We had a wonderful long weekend at the Bearsville Retreat. I would highly recommend it. We were looking for a quick getaway with our two toddlers, and we heard Woodstock was a great little artist town with good restaurants and a great vibe. And that’s exactly what we found. We traveled up from NJ to check out the fall foliage and we were not disappointed. It was gorgeous. The town of Woodstock is a quick 5 min ride from the house, and once you park your car you can explore many shops and restaurants, including a flea market with a hodge-podge of treasures. There is a fun park just a few blocks from the center of town which is great for kids. The house itself is so cozy. The beds were great and the furniture was comfortable. There is plenty of open space to run and explore, plenty of trees to climb and the wood-burning fireplace was a wonderful way to end the day. Once the kids went to bed, the hot tub was dreamy. The bedrooms are separate and don’t share a wall, which is great for extra privacy. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could ever need. The pool looked great, but it was closed for the winter. We’ll have to return when the weather is nicer. This is a romantic little place with a very happy vibe.”
