Car-Free Country House: Bloomingburg Contemporary, $285,000

  |  July 25, 2012

Here’s one from our Upstater Real Estate listings section, located in Bloomingburg (Sullivan County). This is a nice house for a good price, right around $94/square foot. Furthermore, the lot size is nearly 3 acres off a pretty circle drive with some lovely landscaping and a stream on the property. Inside, it has a spacious open floor plan with a two-story fireplace.

But the big question is, can it be lived in without a car? We think so, yes. The Otisville Metro North station (Port Jervis line) is about 10 minutes south, and the house is cab-able from there. The village of Bloomingburg is about 3 miles north, and while there’s no big grocery store closer than Middletown, located 12 miles away, there is a deli, pizza place, diner, banks, a post office, and a town park  in Bloomingburg. Pretty accessible if you’ve got a bike.

And if you’re a horse-lover, even better. Red Gate Farm is a half-mile away, and they offer boarding, which opens up a whole new avenue of car-free living. Just travel by horse! Bloomingburg still has hitching posts, right?
