Conde Nast Travel’s Latest Catskill Guide Features Something Unusual…

Mystic Lodge, Bovina via Airbnb.com

There’s nothing unusual about a weekend guide to the Catskills on something like Conde Nast Travel. However, the fact that a tipi in the Delaware County town of Bovina made the list of CNT’s preferred accommodations was unexpected. Not that we mind. We love unusual inns and rentals in the Hudson Valley and Catskills, and we’re dying to find out what glamping in a tipi is like. Our guess? Unforgettable, at the very least.

The Blue Jay tipi at Mystic Lodge looks super cozy yet tall enough to stand up straight in (an absolute must for glamping), complete with a wood stove, raised bed (another glamping must), and an outdoor shower plus the use of a hot tub (details upon request, according to the Airbnb.com listing). As for the…ahem…facilities, it’s an outhouse, which is better than the woods or communal situations. Glamping is, after all, is still camping at its heart.

Mystic Lodge’s location is perfect for those looking to explore the Catskill Mountains. Situated in the northern Catskills just outside of Bovina Center hamlet, Mystic Lodge is within striking distance of Ulster County, the village of Delhi, Plattekill Mountain, Belleayre Mountain, Roxbury village, and state land galore. Check out Mystic Lodge’s Blue Jay Tipi – which goes for $165/night with a one-night min. stay – on Airbnb.com.
