Contemplating Contemporary Homes in the Hudson Valley & Catskills…

  |  July 11, 2017

…and while contemplating Contemporary homes in the Hudson Valley & Catskills, we found this Contemporary cottage in Columbia County on the east side of the Hudson River. Built in late the 1980s, it bears none of the tackiness that can be found in some Contemporary-style homes built in the 1980s (black veneer, bad carpeting, and misplaced florals come to mind…but do we really need to dig up the unpleasantries of the past?). On the contrary, this 1500 square foot, two bedroom cottage features a country-modern spin on its 1980s roots with uncluttered spaces, lots of natural light, timeless hardwood floors, and built-in cabinetry and features. Our favorite is the wall in-set floating hutch between the living room and kitchen:

Love it, don’t you?

Also includes en suite master bath, formal dining room, wood stove, and guest bedroom. Here’s another fun aspect of this property: Not only does it comes with over 20 acres of land, the property is practically a compound with two-story studio building with art studios, carpentry area, downstairs root cellar, and a private office + separate loft space upstairs. There’s also a rustic cabin tucked into the woods. All buildings on the property have emergency generator power and high-speed fiber optic Internet. Not too bad for 20 acres in the country.

This week on Upstater, we’ll be exploring all kinds of Contemporary homes all over the Hudson Valley and Catskills, so stay tuned for more…
