Upstater’s not first on this list? Well, okay, we forgive them, because many of the “must-visits” on Country Living’s compendium of Hudson Valley attractions do meet our approval. The first is an event of their own, The “Country Living Fair” at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, June 7-9, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. While there probably won’t be bouncy castles, the event promises “great shopping, antique appraisals, seminars and demonstrations, delicious food, and a chance to meet our editors.”

But while you’re not hobnobbing with editors, try some of the other things on their list. They recommend antiquing in Hudson (big shock, right?) but also antiquing in Coxsackie (big shock, and we are no longer being sarcastic, but rather pleasantly surprised). We appreciate their veering over to less trodden territory, like Athens’ Black Horse Farms (“local honeys, preserves, and hot sauces—along with fresh-baked pies, artisanal cheeses, and fine teas at this farmstand-meets-garden store.” Nice to have Athens looped in with Hudson, Rhinebeck, Tivoli and Red Hook, which generally get all the love.
