Anybody Want a Decommissioned Prison?
Kandy Harris | June 7, 2012If you’ve ever fancied transforming an old Greybar Hotel into an ACTUAL hotel (or theatre, or gallery space, or apartment complex), you can now do just exactly that. According to a recent MSN Money article, NYS budgetary crises are forcing the state to put its cadre of old prisons on the auction block, and now you can get a piece of the action. The article lists what’s up for grabs, including the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility, the Buffalo Correctional Facility, and the Hoosick Falls Armory.
Speaking of armories, check out the New York State Surplus real estate page. It’s got an armory in Poughkeepsie up for auction that is truly drool-worthy. Minimum bid starts at a dirt-cheap $50,000. Other cool properties listed, too. Click on the picture below to see the brochure.
