Destinations: Take Your Mom to Prom, May 9 & 10

80s prom

Like, totally.

Hudson Valley Good Stuff is our usual go-to spot for places to take Mom on Mother’s Day, but maybe you’re looking to make a weekend out of it. And maybe Mom loves to rock out to 80s music. After all, who doesn’t? We’d be hard-pressed to find someone unwilling to do a step-touch-snap to Melt With You when it plays on the radio. Why not get gussied up in your finest poofy taffeta dress with butt-bow, quaff up your bangs with extra Aqua Net, don your tuxedo tee-shirt, and make Mom your date to the Paul Green Rock Academy’s My Big Fat 80s Prom Show, Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10. Show starts at 7pm at the Woodstock Primary School, 8 West Hurley Road, Woodstock (GMAP). For the uninitiated: The Paul Green Rock Academy is a music school for kids age 8-18, and every season, they put on three shows to show off their skills in front of enthusiastic audiences. The 80s Prom Show is one of this season’s shows, and it promises to be a totally tubular time. Familiar 80s hits on the set list include Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Mr. Roboto, Beat It, Purple Rain, and We Are the World, all performed by students of the Rock Academy. There will be a few surprises in store, as well. Come dressed for 80s prom and prepare to dance, if you want to. You can leave your friends behind. Tickets are $10 at the door.
