Farmhouse in Hurley, $169,500

  |  April 12, 2012

We gotta hand it to Hurley: There isn’t much for sale there, but what is for sale is sweet. Like this little farmhouse, located on Old Route 209 in Hurley.

Why do we like it? Well, despite the fact that it clearly needs some cosmetic fixes on the exterior, it’s awfully cute. And it’s very affordable. The inside has some things to recommend it, like hard wood floors, a living room stove, French doors, and built-in bookshelves. The Hurley Rail Trail is easily accessible. Oh, and one other thing: It’s practically waterfront property.

Yes, that big ribbon of chocolate milk is the Esopus Creek, but it doesn’t always look like that. And we can’t vouch for exactly how accessible it is from this property (in other words, we don’t know if you’ll have to run through neighbors’ backyards, a la Ferris Bueller, to get to it [Disclaimer: We do not condone trespassing]). But it’s there, nonetheless, tantalizingly nearby.

What don’t we like? It’s right on Old Route 209. And we mean, right on it. There are close neighbors, and it’s not terribly private. However, Old Route 209 is a country road, so it’s not the main drag through town. Also easy biking to Main Street and a good local hang out, the Hurley Mountain Inn.
