Forget MicroBrews: Upstate Has Great “Piss Beer”

This according to the great blog Ridiculous Food Society of Upstate New York, which shares our ebullient affection for Stewart’s, one of the gems of upstate (even though New Yorkers are accustomed to getting artisanal chocolate and eco-friendly toothpaste at every corner bodega). RFSUNY have taken it upon themselves to sample all the good old beers that were integral to the upstate identity and economy long before craft brewing. (Not that there’s anything wrong with craft beer — tastes good, employs local people, etc. It’s just not a beer ball of Genny Cream Ale, a fixture of our upstate youth.)

So now there’s locally made Mountain Brew, something of a phenom among Upstaters. “So much to love. Just look at that can? Has there ever been a more wonderful can?” they write. “The plain silver bad boy with its shoddy calligraphy, limited color palate, and inexplicable stylized sports figures, what is not to love? Gilding the lily is the glorious tag line, ‘A Very Cool Brew.’ You had me at the silver can Stewart’s.”

You’ll have to head over there if you want to hear about, you know, like, how it tastes.
