Gothic Revival Cottage in Hopewell Junction, $448,000

  |  March 20, 2012

After yesterday’s contemporary/Asian-infused weirdness (our apologies to anyone who was accidentally blinded by the fireplace picture), we thought we should make a hasty retreat back to something a little easier on the eyes.

The listing description for 88 Stormville Road mentions A.J. Downing as an influence, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s dripping with the little gingerbread house touches inherent in his design work.

There’s a lot here. It’s on five acres close to the Taconic Parkway and comes with sheds, a detached garage, a pond with a footbridge, a greenhouse, and a heated workshop.

Inside, a hand-painted mural has been added to the entry way, and it’s got two fire places, hardwood floors, and tons of unique little touches all over the place, like the living room window alcove pictured below.

It’s tough to tell from the pictures, but it may need some cosmetic touch-ups. For example, the kitchen floors appear to need some updating, and the window shutters on the front porch need to be freshened up a bit. But the cottage certainly has charm in spades. Location is rural: In fact, it appears to be only one of a handful of houses on Stormville Road. A little over an hour from NYC and very close to the Trump National Golf Club, practically next door.
