Hanukkah in the Hudson Valley (+ Latkes!)

Happy Hanukkah, everyone! The Festival of Lights officially began at sunset last night, but there are still 7 more nights to celebrate. We took a quick look around the Hudson Valley for some Hanukkah-related goings on, and we found this handy list compiled by Lohud.com (looks like all of these are Westchester and Rockland Counties). For those who want to stick closer to the mid-Hudson, check out Chabad of Ulster County, Chabad Dutchess, and and this events calendar from the Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County. For the Catskills, the search didn’t yield as much, but we did find Chabad of Monticello and this Hanukkah and Shabat Celebration in Livingston Manor.

Or, you can do what Dr. Teeth and Zoot are doing up there and celebrate in a low-key way from the comforts of home. That, of course, means that you’re going to need to apply latkes, and plenty of them. Here’s our favorite recipe for succulent potato pancakes of joy, brought to you by Ric Orlando, chef and co-owner of New World Home Cooking in Saugerties and New World Bistro Bar in Albany. Oh, and we hear these ones are pretty nice, too. Don’t forget the apple sauce and sour cream.
