Kingston’s historic Stockade District is slated to be the home to Grupo Habita, a boutique hotel that may occupy the Cioni Building on Crown Street. Just how soon that will be, however, is still up in the air. Kingston Consolidated School District owns the building, and according to the project outline, Mexico-based hoteliers Grupo Habita hope to make an offer on the building sooner than later in order to ride the wave of increased interest in Kingston and the Catskills/Hudson Valley in general.

Grupo Habita aims to be an “affordable” boutique hotel in a place with few boutique hotels and will be situated in a spot walking distance to area fun stuff like the O+ Festival venues, the Kingston Farmers Market and Night Market, scores of restaurants, and lots of shops and galleries, not to mention the location is about a five minute drive from the I-87 Thruway exit. Also set to be nearby come August: Smorgasburg, upstate New York edition.

Among the benefits to Kingston offered by the project outline, Grupo Habita “is ready to make a significant investment: $10 million dollar investment over 2 years (the purchase and renovation of the Cioni building),” and “estimates a 34-room hotel would generate approximately $3 million dollars in yearly revenues and 30 to 60 full-time jobs.” Meanwhile, the Cioni Building isn’t even on the market…yet. But when it is, you can bet Grupo Habita may be one the first to make an offer. Here’s a mock-up of Grupo Habita Kingston’s potential exterior:
