Old Stone House and Barn in the Wilds of Kerhonkson, $325K
Kandy Harris | May 10, 2018Zoned residential and commercial, this c.1801 Kerhonkson stone house could be a full-time residence and so much more…
The 3.2-acre property consists of a 2,601-square foot house, an 18th-century Dutch barn with addition, and a detached 24×24 deck. We don’t know about you, but we’re fantasizing about big cook-outs, small weddings, and garden parties…depending on what the local zoning laws allow for, of course.
Old though the stone house may be, it is so packed with new and well-preserved original features, we can’t decide which one to gush over first. How about the kitchen? Seems like a solid choice, especially when you consider it’s been equipped with: Brick backsplash, American clay walls and ceiling, hand-made alder wood cabinetry, granite counter tops, farm sink, spruce floors, under-counter lighting, and stainless steel appliances like the Lieber 7-foot refrigerator.
Formal dining room includes stone fireplaces, beamed ceilings, and built-in china hutch.
Lounge in the sunroom with brick fireplace…
…or retire to the Fortress of Solitude that is the master suite, complete with vaulted ceilings and double-glass sliders.
You know us, though. We’re here for that stunning Dutch barn. There’s a ton of space here with a 40×50 main area and 20×40 addition. According to the listing, the barn was restored in 2009 with a New York State Parks and Recreation Grant. It’s got its own 200-amp service. Seems a shame to use it only for storage…
Whatever you decide to do with this singular property, you’ll be doing it in the Great Outdoors of the Catskills Mountains. The town of Kerhonkson is located in western Ulster County, about 20 minutes from New Paltz. Nearby places to enjoy the natural setting include Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Preserve, Awosting Preserve, the Rondout Creek, and the northern Catskills. Head to New Paltz, Stone Ridge, and High Falls for civilization.
