Light Up Your Life at Basilica Farm & Flea’s Lamp Making Workshop, Nov. 29
Kandy Harris | November 19, 2015As the old adage says, “If you give a man a lamp, he’ll be lit for a day. If you teach a man to lamp, he’ll be lit for a lifetime.” We’re 99% sure that’s exactly how that saying goes. Need to be lit for a lifetime? Sign up for a Beginners Lamp Making workshop at the Basilica Farm & Flea on Sunday, November 29th. Workshop fee is $45 and includes all the materials necessary to stop squinting in the dark.
Joking aside, this looks like a cool way to spend 90 minutes on a Sunday (the workshop is 11 to 12:30pm, such a short amount of time to make something that involves electricity). We love to DIY and have many half-baked attempts and misguided projects collecting dust in our attics, just like everybody else does. So, when the opportunity presents itself to DIY the right way, we’re all ears. The workshop is led by Elise McMahon, a Hudson-based furniture designer and teacher, who will take students step by step through the process, including how to attach and wire lamp hardware, plus the basic carpentry skills to bring it all together. And, you get to walk away with your own lamp. That you made YOURSELF. And then you’ll know how to make one for every room of your house, and it only cost $45.
Feeling the DIY vibe? Read about the jewelry-making workshop we profiled yesterday, or visit Basilica Farm & Flea’s website for more workshops. The makers’ fair and flea market takes place at the Basilica in Hudson, 110 S. Front Street, November 27-29.
