A Multitude of Fireplaces Live in this C.1837 Greek Revival House in Catskill Village, $525,000

  |  June 27, 2017

This week on Upstater, we’ve been looking at the residential listings in the Greene County town of Catskill and discovered this beautiful brick Victorian on Liberty Street in Catskill village on the market. Meanwhile, one house over on the same street, this brick Greek Revival with a red front door, also listed on the market, beckons us to open it and find out what’s inside.

And what an inside it is. In addition to a fireplace in just about every room on the house, the 1872 square foot interior features hand-carved moldings, over-door panels, 10 foot ceilings on the parlor floor with two large rooms (both with fireplaces, of course) and separated by pocket doors. The polished wood floors on the first floor are heated, and second floor – which includes three bedrooms – is heated by radiators. As for the kitchen, it’s been updated with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, but the original brick cooking fireplace and beehive oven remain, serving as a reminder of how much more difficult it was to cook dinner back when this house was built. Makes you really appreciate your microwave, doesn’t it?

The back deck of the house opens onto a large and fairly private back yard with gardens and a cast iron fountain. Also comes with a two-car detached garage. As for the location, the quarter-acre property is situated walking distance from Catskill village businesses as well as the local waterfront park. Liberty Street, like many streets in Catskill village, is populated with an array of historic homes and makes for good house-gawking next time you’re in town.
