Here’s a Palenville cottage on a full acre of land, walking-distance from an artsy, laid-back hamlet…
America’s first art colony is alive and thriving in the Great Northern Catskills, and if this sounds like the kind of place you’d like to lay down your welcome mat, keep reading.
Situated about 15 minutes west of Catskill village in Greene County, Palenville, pop. 1,037, acts as the gateway to the Kaaterskill Wild Forest within the Catskill Park and all of its numerous waterfalls, swimming holes, breathtaking mountain vistas, and challenging (and occasionally dangerous) hiking/climbing.
Once you’re in to the Kaaterskill area, the next populated town is Haines Falls on the other side of the mountain, so Palenville serves as a charming stop on the way to communing with nature. Visitors and residents can pop into the local general store, or the hot dog truck parked at the Triangle, where Routes 23A and 32A meet in the center of town. There’s a public library, a place to get a haircut, a local watering hole/bistro, and a nearby golf course. There’s also this five-figure cottage close to all of those things, as well as the Kaaterskill Creek, and we think it could make one sweet little home with some elbow grease.
The operative word here is “little,” since its 829 square feet in size, with two bedrooms and single bath…
…and, the kitchen seems surprisingly roomy.
There aren’t many pictures to accompany this listing, so what you see is…well, what you see. However, we do know the area in which is property is located, and we can tell you that if you are in search of a Catskills-adjacent cottage that’s close to water, close to town, and situated on a large lot, that’s a tall order, regardless of how much work this cottage needs. So, best jump on this one before someone else catches wind of the quiet, friendly, and picturesque hamlet that is Palenville, NY.
