This Week on Upstater: Panning for Gold in Rensselaer County NY

Rensselaer County NY

Troy, Rensselaer County NY

Oh, how we love to flirt with the outskirts of the Upstater area. When you’ve been looking at real estate listings in the Hudson Valley and Catskills as long as we have, you start hungering for the fringes, the unmined pockets of gold just beyond your immediate purview. Rensselaer County NY, situated east of the Hudson and north of Albany, seems just the place to break out our pickaxes and start digging.

And, we didn’t have to dig for long. After all, this isn’t our first time at the rodeo. Back in April, we featured an area we call “Not Quite the Capital District,” which we pinpointed as west of Hudson, north of Greene County, east of Otesgo County. On the east of Hudson side: North of Columbia County into Rensselaer County.

This week, however, we’re honing in on Rensselaer County NY specifically, including the city of Troy, the town of Hoosick, and the villages of Hoosick Falls and Castleton-on-Hudson. Why? It’s simple. The homes are inexpensive, many of which are attractive and turn-key. Historical architecture abounds in Rensselaer County, and it’s on full display in the city of Troy. There are parks, trails, access to water, a prestigious college, and it’s convenient to Vermont and Massachusetts, not to mention New Hampshire and Connecticut.

Need more reasons to give Rensselaer County a second look? Join us this week on Upstater when we plumb the depths of the Rensselaer County NY real estate listings. Stay tuned…
