Renovated Seasonal Cottage in Smallwood, $59,000
Kandy Harris | August 4, 2015You can’t get very far in the Sullivan County five-figure listings without bumping into a lake community cottage. And when you do (if you haven’t yet), you’ll start getting really excited about the prices and the adorableness of said cottages. We know, because we were like you, once upon a time. Here’s the thing, though. Most cottages in these lake communities are seasonal and cannot be made four-season no matter how hard you try, short of digging an expensive well. And, they’re cash-only, so we hope you have a bunch on hand. However, if you’re in the market for a seasonal home in a lake community, you could do much worse than Smallwood or this 480 sq. ft. log cabin. The current owners did yeoman’s work on its lovely renovation right down to the original hardwood floors, plus new kitchen appliances, front porch, back deck, electric, and heating. We hear that people who spend time at Smallwood adore the community and amenities (clubhouse, pool, lake, etc.). If this place looks like it could be for you, do yourself a favor and read this for a reality check on Smallwood and other Sullivan County lake communities. It’s incredibly informative.
