Rental of the Week: Ten Broeck Cottage in Hudson, $1,500/weekend
Kandy Harris | April 30, 2013
This week’s rental is a vacation property near the Columbia County city of Hudson, and it’s both a wonderful example of old combined with new, and it comes with a story, too. According to Messana O’Rorke Architects, the designers of the house, the property began life as a disused circa-1734 Dutch cottage. They combined what was left of the cottage with a modern addition while still keeping some of the original elements of the cottage (like wide plank floorboards and beamed ceilings), creating a sleek, new house with clean lines and modernity in all the right places.
The Ten Broeck Cottage is on 8 acres of apple orchard, and when the fruit is ripe for picking, cottage guests can help themselves to the spoils. Taghkanic Creek runs through the property, and there are spots deep enough to take a dip when it’s hot. If you manage to swing a reservation before the end of May, you can stay here for seven days for $2,000. Once the high season starts, the prices go up.
Beds: 3
Baths: 2 (includes steam room)
