We’re Thankful for Mid-Mods This Week

Kandy here, your friendly neighborhood Upstater. Like many of you, I’m counting my blessings a little more thoroughly than usual this week. I have a wonderful family. Amazing friends. A roof over my head. Food to eat. Clean water to drink. And, I don’t have to drive anywhere for Thanksgiving, especially with a nor’easter bearing down on us come Wednesday (more on that later today).

Pardon me if I get a little personal for a second (I promise it won’t happen again for quite some time), but one of the things I’m most thankful for is my job. This job. The one where I get to look at stunning properties in the Hudson Valley and Catskills and then gush about them every day. Not long ago, I was let go from a job that consumed me in a million unhealthy ways for 5 years, and the day I was given my pink slip was one of the worst days of my life. But today, I am smiling. It was an incredible blessing in disguise, because it finally forced me to invest my time in things that really matter to me and make me happy. This little real estate/lifestyle blog I’ve been gleefully entangled with for the past 3 years brings me an inordinate amount of joy. Combined with all of my other pursuits – both moneymaking and otherwise – I feel like I hit the lotto in life, minus all the sadness and tragedy that always seems to come with actually winning the lottery.  And I hope that this little real estate/lifestyle blog also brings you some joy, whether it’s in the form of a drool-worthy property, or a thoughtful piece written by one of our talented contributors, or a heads-up on an event you didn’t know about before but are excited to attend.

Okay, personal stuff over. Let’s get to the reason why we’re all here: stunning properties. And I’m not going to lie, Mid-Century Modern might be my most favorite of all design sensibilities (I realize that’s kind of like choosing a favorite child at this point). Thankfully, the Upstater area is abundant with these beauties, so let’s celebrate them together by looking at a property per day. Let’s celebrate their clean lines, their giant windows, their simplicity, their sophistication. And, as always, I celebrate you, dear reader, because without you, who would come with me down the enticing rabbit hole of local real estate? Thank you for coming along for the ride, and stay warm, healthy, and happy this holiday week.
