The Hidden Legacy of Peekskill New York

  |  June 2, 2016

The Hudson Valley has always had deep roots concerning immigrant families coming to the area to make a name for themselves. Some of these families crafted lasting legacies that are still felt to this day thanks to their current generation’s influence. From May 21th until June 25th, the Field Library will host an exhibit honoring two such individuals.

Barry James Lent has been creating visual art for a quarter-century. Not only that, his skills have been commissioned by many different musical artists. A descendant of the Van Lents, one of the founding Dutch families that traveled here in the 1650s, his work has been exhibited all over the world in places including the United States, Europe and South America. Barbara Doherty, whose expertise ranges from sculptures to masks and beyond, can trace her lineage back to families whose ancestral footprint dates as far back as the 1700s. Tenebarrum: Art from the Shadows is set to display many different pieces from both artists.
