The Ultimate in Upcycling: It’s Converted Barns Week!
Kandy Harris | March 30, 2015Our love of barns hasn’t been kept much of a secret within the virtual pages of this blog. If there’s one including with a property, we’ll probably point it out. Especially if it’s red. Nothing screams “rural” like a big red barn. What we love even more than those big red barns, though, are renovated barns that have been masterfully transformed into unique living spaces, added bonus points if the lofty high ceilings are maintained and not split up into various floors. For this week’s theme, we’ll be casting a light on the renovated/converted barn market in the Upstater area. Some of this week’s offerings are polished and complete. Others await a masterful restoration from the hands of someone who digs on barns as much as we do. A word of caution, however, before you embark on such an ambitious endeavor: Converting a barn into a living space is no joke. It usually requires a massive amount of restructuring and adding on of fixtures. In other words, it’s a true labor of love emphasis on “labor,” but oh how magnificent the results. So throw on your bib overalls, sweep out the granary, and find a new home for the hay. It’s time for Converted Barns Week! Stay tuned…
