This Week on Upstater: A House and a Half-Acre for Under $200K
Kandy Harris | March 5, 2018Are you ready for a bevy of affordable Catskills and Hudson Valley Houses?
Happy Monday, Upstaters! This week, we’re bringing you a bargain hunter’s delight: A house, plus a half-acre of land or more, for $200K or less. If this falls within your home buying budget sweet-spot, you’re going to want to stick around for the next five days.
Here’s what we observed during our search for this economical gems on the market:
– If you are looking east of the Hudson, you’re going to find a great many fixer-uppers. In order to find more turn-key options, go north to Columbia County (not Hudson), or, cheaper still, Rensselaer County.
– Your best bets for affordable homes with at least a half-acre west-of-Hudson are the counties of Delaware, Greene, Sullivan…well, pretty much anywhere west-of-Hudson, at least compared to east-of-Hudson. It’s the property taxes that make the difference.
– Raised Ranches make up a huge portion of this market. Don’t poo-poo those ranches! We made a strong case for them recently.
Ready for those Catskills and Hudson Valley affordable homes? Stayed tuned to Upstater all week long…
