This Week on Upstater: The Allure of the Mysterious Victorian House
Kandy Harris | October 23, 2017Halloween approacheth, my pretties, which means thoughts are turning to all things spooky. And when we think spooky, we think Victorian.
Can you blame us? It could be centuries of literary conditioning, but it’s hard not to picture a ghost when you behold the stately, ornate exterior of an old Victorian house with a mansard roof and widow’s walk. Our imaginations run wild when we see the cavernous interior with high ceilings, large windows, pocket doors, hidden staircases, and dozens of nooks and crannies in which spirits can hide.
Or, it could be that I was raised on a steady diet of television, and some of those shows were set in houses that look like this…
And movies, some of which take place in houses that look like this…
If you’re a fan of the haunted house, join us this week as we fire up our EMF detectors, put on our night vision goggles, and explore some of the more mysterious Hudson Valley Victorian houses among the residential real estate listings. Stay tuned…IF YOU DARE…
(cue maniacal laughter)
