Hanford Mills Museum’s Ice Harvest Festival
Hanford Mills Museum in East Meredith is hosting its annual Ice Harvest Festival Saturday, February 6 from 10 am to 4 pm, despite warm temperatures this year. Keeping the tradition of ice harvesting alive, the way it was done before the invention of refrigeration, Hanford Mills Museum invites visitors to participate in activities such as removing big blocks of ice from a frozen mill pond and then transporting it to a big ice house. The horse-drawn sleighs and sleds may be replaced this year with wagons and carriages. Activities include traditional parlor games, ice harvesting movies, blacksmith demonstrations, and a hot soup buffet. For more information, visit hanfordmills.org.
