Woodstock Writers Festival Celebrates Its Seventh Anniversary

Woodstock Writers Festival, a treat for writers and readers in the Hudson Valley area, celebrates its seventh anniversary this weekend. The festival opens on Thursday evening with a Story Slam Competition – the theme this year is “We Can Be Heroes Just for One Day,” in honor of David Bowie, who passed away earlier this year. Intensive workshops are offered on Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, and several panel discussions are hosted throughout the day on Saturday. The keynote address will be delivered by Nancy Jo Sales, author of “American Girls: Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers,” published by Knopf in 2016. The event will take place Saturday at 8 pm at the Woodstock Music Lab. For a full schedule, visit woodstockwriters.com.

Dr. Wanda M. Corn from Stanford University Speaks at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site, Exploring Artists’ Homes and Studios as Archive and Romance Places

The Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill is hosting a Sunday Salon lecture this Sunday, April 10 at 2 pm with Dr. Wanda M. Corn from Stanford University. The lecture called Artists’ Homes and Studios as Archive and Romance will explore American artists’ homes and studios that, like the Cole property, have been preserved and opened to the public, and will look at what these places can teach us about the creative process and the history of art. The lecture will take place in Cole’s New Studio, which was re-built last year based on the original design model. For more information, visit thomascole.org.
