“Meet the Authors” – Third Annual Catskills Book Festival

Writers in the Mountains is hosting its third annual “Meet the Authors” – Catskills Book Festival, Sunday, April 24 from 12 noon to 4 pm at the Union Grove Distillery in Arkville. “Meet the Authors,” a literary arts and community event, features this year, over twenty poets and writers including Sari Botton, Linda Lowen, Robert Burke Warren, Cheryl Clarke, and Anique Taylor. The keynote speaker is Rosie Schaap, author of the celebrated memoir Drinking with Men as well as the “Drink” column for The New York Times magazine. Danniel Schoonebeek, whose debut book of poems American Barricade, was named one of the year’s ten standout debuts by Poets & Writers and called “a groundbreaking first book that stands to influence its author’s generation” by Boston Review, will be the Featured Poet. Cookbook editor Carrie Bradley Neves will be talking about new ingredients in the cookbook scene during the “foodie” era. Also in the program there is a publishing roundtable with panelists Leslie T. Words and Images: The Art of Storytelling at the Greene County Council on the Arts

The Greene County Council on the Arts, located on Main Street in the town of Catskill, is hosting a multi-media group show called Words and Images: The Art of Storytelling, opening reception Saturday, April 23 at 5 pm. The show, which explores the art of storytelling through animated short films, graphic novels, illustrations, sculptures, photographs, zines, and mixed media, features the works of dozens of artists, including British illustrator Noel Guard. Cooperstown Summer Music Festival Opens This Weekend at the Otesaga Hotel

American String Quartet will perform at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown this Sunday, April 24 at 4 pm, thus marking the opening of the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival, now in its 18th season. The Quartet, formed by Peter Winograd and Laurie Carney, violin, Daniel Avshalomov, viola, and Wolfram Koessel, cello, will perform works by Beethoven, Maurice Ravel, and Albert Roussel, such as Beethoven’s Quartet in F major, Op. 59, the Ravel String Quartet in F major, and Roussel’s Elpénor for flute and string quartet, Op. 59.
