The Art Society of Kingston (ASK) is hosting its annual Gala event this Saturday, May 21 at 5 pm at the Saugerties Performing Arts Factory in Saugerties. The gala, dubbed this year “A Night at the ASKars,” honors local artists working in all disciplines. The 2016 recipients include composer George Tsontakis, who teaches at Bard College and the Aspen School of Music, and sculptor Trina Greene, who just completed the Shakespeare Garden in Orange County State Park. ASK will also honor this year The Coach House Players, a community theatrical troupe with seven decades of existence. The evening includes full dinner, live music, and a silent auction. “Portrait Gallery” Art Show Opens at Wired Gallery in High Falls
Wired Gallery in High Falls is hosting Portrait Gallery art show, opening reception May 21 at 4 pm. A group show featuring nine artists working in various media, Portrait Gallery explores the characteristics of contemporary portraiture in the age of the selfie. Featured artists include painter Claire Lambe, and photographer Kellie Merchant. The High Falls Emporium also opens its Sculpture Garden this Saturday, May 21 at 2 pm. Olana’s Grounds Guided Tours
Olana State Historic Site, the home of 19th century landscape painter Frederic Edwin Church, inaugurates this weekend guided tours of its grounds by means of open-air electric vehicles. The tour follows about five miles of Olana’s carriage road system and lasts an hour. Knowledgeable guides will discuss topics such as art and design, including landscape design, and Church’s artistic vision as well as his legacy. Learn more at olana.org.
