Hobart Book Village Festival of Women Writers

In its third year, Hobart Book Village Festival of Women Writers takes place this weekend, Friday through Sunday, September 11 – 13, bringing over twenty renowned authors to the region. A variety of workshops – from poetry and memoir to publishing – will be offered over the span of three days. On Friday afternoon Stephanie Nikolopouplos, author of Burning Furiously Beautiful: A True Story of Jack Kerouac’s “On The Road”, will be teaching Cut-Ups, Jazz-Poetry, and Picture Poems: Writing under the Influence of the Beat Generation. Also on Friday Nancy K. Bereano will be teaching a workshop on publishing called From Creation to Submission: Some Things You Need to Know and Do to Improve the Chances of Getting Your Writing into the World. On Saturday there will be a reception open to the public, held at the Liberty Rock Bookstore on Main Street. Hobart is home to six independent bookstores. The Farmers’ Museum’s 37th Annual Harvest Festival

The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown is hosting its 37th annual Harvest Festival Saturday and Sunday, September 12 – 13, from 10 am to 5 pm. There will be artisans’ demonstrations, live music, children’s activities, and plenty of farm food. Artisan demonstrations include spinning, lace making, and china painting. Activities for children range from clown performances and storytelling to fun games, and agricultural activities such as corn shelling and grinding. For more information, visit www.farmersmuseum.org

Basilica Hudson’s SoundScape Festival

Basilica Hudson, co-founded by Melissa Auf der Maur, who once played with Smashing Pumpkins, is hosting SoundScape, a festival of music and art, Friday through Sunday, September 11 – 13. Live music, screenings and readings are scheduled throughout the weekend. A special art show The Now Forever is hosted in the Basilica’s Back Gallery. On Sunday morning brunch is accompanied by Basilica Farm & Flea, a preview of the market traditionally organized around Thanksgiving. For more information, visit basilicahudson.com
