Just because fall is here, doesn’t mean the music stops! There are lots of locally grown Hudson Valley music shows in the coming month including Ian Flanigan, Lara Hope and the Ark-Tones, and The Big Takeover. See the list of local music shows here.

O+ Kingston

If I have to choose just one, this month my pick is—surprise, surprise—Kingston’s O+ festival, taking place the weekend of October 6! For the uninitiated, O+ is a now 8-year-old music and art festival that takes over Kingston’s Stockade District and parts of midtown for one glorious October weekend. Venues, bars, and galleries play host to live music and visual art installations; colorful new murals appear on formerly boring building facades; the streets fill with revelers, spectators and strange mystical creatures (thanks to the legendary costume creations of artist Anna Hafner).

And best of all, all participating artists receive free healthcare in exchange for their talents. It’s a truly beautiful cross-section of everything that’s great about the Hudson Valley, set perfectly smack-dab in the middle of the finest crisp fall air, early dusk and drifting foliage. The music on offer this year includes sets from major acts like Deerhoof and Spirit Family Reunion, as well as a slew of local favorites including the Big Takeover, Yard Sale and Candy Ambulance. Come see why #movetokingstonnow has been trending for years.

About MK Burnell

MaryKate “MK” Burnell’s musical preferences, personality and career path can all be reasonably summarized with the word “eclectic.” The daughter of two parents from the broadcasting industry, MK has dabbled in everything from theater to International Relations (in which she *almost* has a degree from SUNY New Paltz). She’s equally at home crooning out a torch song perched atop a grand piano, or working a crowded dive bar into a frenzy as MK ULTRA, the psychedelic ringleader of original jam/funk band Locofreeq.
