Upstate for the Weekend? Sounds Super!

  |  January 26, 2015
Is this photo a blatant attempt to get you to make it all the way to the end of the article? Why, yes, yes it is.

There are two ways to do the Super Bowl: dive right into the beer-soaked madness, or run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. Either way, there is always excitement in the air during the weekend of the game, so why not use the festivities as an excuse to ditch work early and rent yourself a little slice of upstate heaven? (You know the rest of the office won’t be paying attention to your emails this Friday anyway.) So without further ado, we present the following three homes for both the fans and the football Scrooges – each one comes equipped with a sizeable TV for viewing the game or any of its iterations, and is right around the corner from some of the Hudson Valley’s best Super Bowl gatherings.

1) Chic Poughkeepsie Retreat

SB2

Price/night: $135
Accommodations: Private room, 1 bed
Max guests: 2
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
You know the Airbnb rental you’re eyeing is probably a safe bet when one of the hosts has a background in design and architecture. Another indication that you have found a top-notch getaway is a positive review of the host’s people skills. We ticked both of these items off immediately when we stumbled upon this delightful home while looking for a place to crash in Poughkeepsie. The tasteful design of the interior and the fact that previous guests cannot stop raving about the warm welcome they received tells us that Seth and Erin make the effort to put their visitors first when hosting, and that’s exactly what we look for when navigating a city like Poughkeepsie for the first time. From this charming craftsman abode, guests are a stone’s throw away from Mahoney’s Irish Pub and Steakhouse, known for its rompous celebrations and twenty-six TVs, and the Derby Bar & Restaurant, which will be offering a buffet and an open bar deal for VIPs during the big game on Sunday.

Sample reviews:

“Seth’s home in Poughkeepsie is downright lovely. And Seth’s hosting is downright comprehensive and entertaining. We didn’t want to do a bunch of research for our trip before leaving and we didn’t have to, b/c Seth pointed us to all the history, scenery, stylish small towns and restaurants we could possibly enjoy and more. And back to the house—it’s well-appointed in every corner, full of wonderful art, furniture and decor. The kitchen had all the goods for a couple of delicious home cooked meals. Seth has the Airbnb experience figured out. Highly recommended.”

“I have just started using airbnb this year, and my time here was my third experience. By far, Seth was the best host to date. He is not only an amazing host, but I submit he has a gift for welcoming travelers and warmly welcomed me. Additionally, he is a fabulous conversationalist. Take some time to sit and have a chat with him.

You will not be disappointed with your stay here. The house is very charming, well kept, and in a quiet, convenient location in Poughkeepsie. Although there is only one shower/tub, with myself and another guest staying at the same time, there was no problem with the shared bathroom.

I am looking forward to my return trip to Poughkeepsie and my stay here, as my son attends college in the area.

I highly recommend this host!”

2) Adorable Cabin in White Plains

SB3

Price/night: $99
Accommodations: Full home, 3 beds
Max guests: 5
Min stay: 1 night
House description:
We love the juxtaposition of urban and rural on the profile of this cozy destination. As the host notes, this rental is not, in fact, in the middle of the wilderness. Guests to Alex’s cabin are just a mile away from White Plains, so while we hate to use such a worn expression, the location really does offer the best of both worlds. With Silver Lake Preserve just beyond the backyard, visitors can spend Sunday morning in the bucolic splendor of the forest and the afternoon surrounded by a whole different type of natural phenomenon, namely, Super Bowl Sunday at the Brazen Fox.

Sample review:

“Fantastic trip with a wonderful and communicative host! The cabin is lovely and the fireplace is huge. This is a perfect place to escape for a weekend and regroup.”

3) Luxurious Nyack Escape

SB4

Price/night: $400
Accommodations: Full home, 6 bedrooms
Max guests: 22
Min stay: 1 night
House description:
Whether you rent this home for the Super Bowl party of a lifetime or not, we would strongly encourage future guests to take full advantage of the LED jacuzzi. Seriously, when life presents you with the opportunity to take a bubble bath surrounded by an ethereal purple glow and the sound of the bass bumping through the wall from the indoor nightclub, you take that opportunity. Moving on, this incredible house sleeps twenty-two, so start picking your favorite people and thinking of subtle ways to tell everyone else that you’ll be gone for a while without giving any specific details. Looking at this home’s excellent reviews, we can tell that the host clearly has a passion for providing a truly one-of-a-kind hospitality experience.

Sample reviews:

“We booked this house for an exec team offsite and it was amazing, better than the photos! it was perfect and slept all of us comfortably! we will defiantly use this again in the future. george was so helpful and responded to all the questions we had leading up to the day of SUPER FAST! this was all around a perfect location and experience! highly recommended”

“I have rented many houses from homeaway and by far this is the best house i have stayed at, everything in the house is immaculate. My family and I enjoyed every minute of our stay and we certainly will rent it again for our next vacation.”
