The patio at No. 9 in Millerton

Ah, Date Night: Every Friday night across the country, couples and smug marrieds everywhere call their sitters, knock off early from the office, and try to come up with something creative and romantic to do with their precious alone time. We don’t know about you, but more often than not, Date Night is more “sweats, Chinese, Netflix on the couch” than “sexy dress and a French restaurant”, and that’s a darn shame. Upstate New York can be pretty romantic, with all its natural beauty, sultry summer nights, and cool little tucked-away hangouts. We thought we’d help you out a bit by offering a suggestion for Date Night in our Town of the Week, Millerton, and as it turns out, Millerton is a good spot to go out on a quiet, low-key date.

Dinner…

No. 9 Restaurant is located Main Street, and chef Tim Cocheo’s menu is French-inspired locavore goodness. What struck us right away is that nearly every appetizer has some variation of truffle in it, which is enough to sell us. In fact, we would visit there for the Quark Spatzle alone. Plus, we find the outdoor patio to be cozy and quite romantic, with Tiki torches illuminating quiet evenings.

….And a Movie

Millerton’s local non-super-megaplex theater is called the Moviehouse. Not only does it show a handful of first-run movies, they also have a line-up of indie films, live events (Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me is being broadcast live from the Moviehouse on May 2), Metropolitan Opera performances on screen in HD, and plays. They even have their own art gallery/cafe.

No. 9 is open Tuesday-Saturday, and Moviehouse is showing movies every night of the week except Sundays. There. Date Night planned. You can thank us later.
