There are plenty of pretty towns in the US of A, but those of us here in the Upstater area, we love our small towns the best. So we were not at all surprise when USA Today recently picked its crop of 50 picturesque small towns in the county, and our beloved Woodstock village made the list.

Standard caveat: We are referring to Woodstock village in Ulster County, not the location of the 1969 concert held at Yasgur’s farm in Bethel, Sullivan County. That Woodstock spirit, however, is alive and well in the village of the same name, as evidenced by its funky architecture, Sunday drum circles on the Village Green, and a strong love of arts and music. In fact, as we mentioned earlier in the week, Woodstock is where the legendary Byrdcliffe arts colony is located in surroundings that would definitely qualify as “picturesque”.

What are your picks for more picturesque small towns in the Hudson Valley and Catskills? Let us know in the comments!
