This Week on Upstater: Return of the Mid-Mods!

  |  February 13, 2017

Real estate-obsessed readers of Upstater know that we love a Mid-Century Modern home. Give us a wall of glass, some wood paneling, and a kitchen filled with avocado-colored appliances made in the 1960s, and we are all a-flutter. However, sometimes, in order to find the coolest Mid-Century Modern homes on the market, you have to scratch below the surface. A quick trip around the listings will often reveal homes that look like this on the outside. Note the Ranch style design, common in those 1950s-1970s Mid-Mods we love so very much:

It’s neat and tidy on the outside, but might be overlooked by virtue of the fact that there are are hundreds of homes that look just like this one the outside, which is why you have to look at the inside. And, when you do, sometimes, you find interiors like this:

Same house. See? Now aren’t you glad you looked inside?

This week, we’re be plunging head-first into the residential real estate listings for the Hudson Valley and Catskills to find you the swingin’-est, hippest, swankiest Mid-Century Moderns currently on the market, even if we have to look inside every single Ranch home built between 1950 and 1971 to find them. Stay tuned for more this week on Upstater…
