It may not be “Antiques Capital, USA” (that extremely specific title belongs to Adamstown, PA, apparently), but Millerton was recently recognized by Fodor’s Travel as one of the top ten antiquing towns in the country. To be honest, we won’t lose any sleep if Adamstown holds the title of “Antiques Capital” ad infinitum, because there is so much more to Millerton than its history. The town’s present is just as vibrant as its past, especially with newcomers like 52 Main and Irving Farm Coffee Roasters complementing the older establishments and bringing a new energy to the block. So, of course, we do recommend checking out Millerton’s famed antiquing destinations, but once you have reached your threshold for butter churns and vintage military equipment, we recommend exploring the wonderful boutiques, eateries, and outdoor activities that this delightful Dutchess County locale has to offer! Here are our top three rentals for whatever shape your Millerton adventure takes:

1) The Round House of Millerton

Price/night: $95
Accommodations: Full house, 3 bedrooms
Max guests: 5
Min stay: 1 night
House description:
The Round House is run on solar energy and plenty of imagination. The hosts have an eye for whimsical and engaging design features, and their creativity comes to life in their Mediterranean-meets-New England home. Each room available to guests has its own distinct personality; and all those colors and angles blend together to create a beautiful, nature-themed tableau for all ages to enjoy.

Sample reviews:

“We had an amazing time at the Roundhouse! This is a charming, surprisingly spacious and extremely comfortable place that made us feel right at home. We brought our 9month old with us and he loved playing in the children’s room and the unique loft area. We definitely took advantage of the many board games at the house! Friendly neighbor Monica came by the first day to assure that we were settled in nicely. The town of Millerton is very close by and we dined at some cute local restaurants and were able to take a nice walk with the stroller on the paved rail trail. Antique shops, a great bookstore and the lovely tea shop in Millerton were fun to explore. This made a really nice 2 day getaway vacation for us.”

“Very nice weekend getaway 🙂 bright unique house run by solar energy, great location, close to trails and beautiful waterfalls.. huge collection of tasty teas to try, lots of spices 🙂 Netflix to spend the late evening.. we would definitely recommend this place to our friends :)”

2) Spacious Millerton Saltbox

Price/night: $220
Accommodations: Full house, 2 bedrooms
Max guests: 5
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
So the jacuzzi bathtub at this pristine saltbox is not exactly historically accurate, but as any true history buff will tell you, there are many different ways to immerse oneself in the past. We can’t think of a single reason why an antiquing adventure shouldn’t begin with some modern luxuries, so we would like to point out that this lovingly maintained rental also includes Wifi, a fitness room, and cable.

Sample reviews:

“My Wife and I decided to come out to Millerton recently for a potential move so I booked this lovely home to see if we liked the area and the people around us. It was truly a pleasure. As for the property, the house is beautiful and well appointed as the writeup says. My wife enjoyed the antiques and books, and we both enjoyed heading into town to view the local galleries. I have a passion for cooking and the kitchen was a true delight! The property is beautiful in the winter so I can only imagine it in the warmer months.”

“I booked this property last fall so we, my husband and I, could get away from the city for a couple weeks. It was a relaxing retreat that let me focus on some writing I’ve been working on. My husband loved it too, he went on quite a few walks during our stay. The scenery is well worth the trip but the home is beautifully maintained as indicated which adds to the experience overall. The town is great too with interesting galleries and cool antique stops you will not be disappointed with your stay! The jacuzzi bathtub is worth the visit alone.”

3) House Share in Amenia

Price/night: $250
Accommodations: Full house, 3 bedrooms
Max guests: 6
Min stay: 3 nights
House description:
The two owners of this gorgeous Amenia home are seeking another couple to rent the space during the weekends on a regular, four-season basis. So how about it? We thought we weren’t quite ready to settle down with just one rental yet, but we’re looking at the incredible scenery and the inviting fireplace at this house and thinking we may not be such commitment-phobes after all…
