Glimmerglass Opera Festival
Glimmerglass Opera Festival in Cooperstown debuts this weekend with The Magic Flute, written by Mozart in 1791. Widely performed all over the world, The Magic Flute is given a fresh, new interpretation at Glimmerglass this summer. “Our Magic Flute is not a journey to a fantastical other world, but a way of looking more deeply into the real place we live in, the woods around Glimmerglass, if you only open your eyes wide enough,” says director Madeline Sayet, quoted on the festival’s website. The first performance takes place Friday, July 10 at 7:30 pm. For more information, visit glimmerglass.org.

Erpf Gallery – Quilt Exhibit
Erpf Gallery in Arkville is hosting a quilt exhibit called Traditions with a Twist: Quilts by Sally Abrams, with an opening reception on Saturday, July 11 at 3 pm. A member of the Catskill Mountain Quilters Hall of Fame, Abrams is an experienced artisan who’s done both large and small works in a variety of patterns and colors. Quilting has had a long tradition in America: emerging from a desire to use textiles efficiently, quilting has always had an aesthetic-driven approach that’s led to a multitude of styles. For more information about this exhibit, visit catskillcenter.org.
