Woodland Valley Cottage on a Hill, $185,000
Kandy Harris | July 21, 2015In spite of its relatively diminutive size, the village of Phoenicia in northern Ulster County has a little bit of everything. Good food, a couple of cool stores (including the Mystery Spot, one of our favorite vintage/antique/junk stores around), hotels and inns, gorgeous scenery, tubing on the Esopus Creek, a summer festival devoted to opera, a well-known and beloved art gallery, and a funky, artistic vibe that rings from the Catskill mountains to the forest. Is it the best of all possible worlds? We’re answering yes to that question, which makes this sweet cottage all the more attractive. The exterior features a stacked stone foundation, a screened-in porch on supports, and Muddy Brook trickling by. Knotty pine paneling makes up the interior, as well as a living room fire place, two bedrooms, and all the furniture depicted. Yep, it comes furnished, although mounted animal heads aren’t really our thing. All in all, a lovely hilltop setting 5 mins. from Phoenicia, one of our favorite creative communities. Added bonus: The taxes are dirt cheap.
