What $1500/mo. Will Get You in Germantown
Upstater Staff | September 16, 2014We recently found this little tidbit on what $1500/mo. in rent will get you in various cities and towns throughout the US. It revealed nothing shocking whatsoever: If you choose to live in a city, you’re going to pay more $$ for an apartment. If you live out in the country, you’ll pay less. Okay, well, that’s a big fat “duh” right there. But here in upstate New York, you can still find something much bigger than a closet with “free oxygen” and still be somewhat close to civilization. For example, we found this 4 bed/2 bath contemporary on nearly 3 rolling acres in Germantown, Columbia County for $1500/month. That’s a house big enough for a family with children, plus plenty of room to play outside. Is it located in Nebraska? Nope. It’s less than 2 hours north of Manhattan. Furthermore, it’s 10 minutes south of the city of Hudson, and it’s close to the Hudson River. GreatSchools.com gives Germantown Central Schools 4 out of 5 stars based on 31 reviews, which is a decent rating. So, while the HV and Catskills continue to grow in popularity amongst those migrating away from crowded metropolis, you can still find decent rent prices…for now.
