Pristine Restored Colonial in Chester, $325,000
Kandy Harris | January 4, 2016As much as we love Orange County, one of the things we find so frustrating is that the housing market is generally overflowing with mass-produced homes (think varying degrees of McMansions) located in subdivisions populated with similar-looking houses. So, finding a house with character and personality might require more hunting than you would have to do in, say, all of Columbia County. An irony, to be sure, considering how much historic architecture there is in the area. We were delightfully surprised, however, to find this restored c.1850 Colonial in the Orange County town of Chester (located about 30 minutes southwest of Newburgh, in case you need a reference).
Includes 1700 sq. ft., 3 beds/1 baths, and tons of original details like crown moldings and plank floors, not to mention a living room/sitting room painted a gorgeous dusty-blue color. But for us, the additional two-story outbuilding set up as an art studio with its own electric/heat is what really sells it. At the very least, it helps justify the price tag.
