Journey to the Black Forest in this Bavarian Cottage Without Leaving Big Indian, $75,000
Sam Benedict | January 13, 2016You’re probably thinking, I thought Upstater posted properties in upstate New York not in the dense forest of southwest Germany. We know this home might look like a cottage in the Black Forest but we swear it’s nested in the Oliverea Valley in Big Indian. The classic grid pattern on this Bavarian cottage has us dreaming of pretzels and steins full of foamy ale and we are just ‘cuckoo’ about the price. (Get it?) Bear with our corny jokes for a moment and explore the inside with us.
Sure the interior could use a few cosmetic updates like ripping out some old carpet and a colorful coat of paint to make the inside pop, but this 1 bed 2 bath home has plenty of flare, more than you normally see in a home this inexpensive. Things we love: raw cedar beams in the dining and living room, gorgeous cast iron wood stove, floor to ceiling windows providing plenty of natural light.
Located along the Esopus Creek, the view from this cottage couldn’t be more beautiful. A large deck allows plenty of room for entertaining. Just imagine hosting an Oktoberfest party on that puppy. Line it with some picnic tables, play some Bavarian music and you’ve just transformed your deck into a German biergarten. Cheers!
