Gothic c.1884 Brick Church For Sale in Downtown Kingston, $489,900
Kandy Harris | August 8, 2017We’re taking a short break from glamping excursions to bring you this stunning 19th-century brick church, located on the Rondout Creek in downtown Kingston. Zoned for commercial/industrial use, the 6500 square foot space is currently a textile works but could be darn near anything that requires that much room. It should be noted, however, that this is in a largely industrial area of south Kingston, so don’t expect the same walkable village vibe you get from the Strand neighborhood, less than 5 minutes up Abeel Street.
This is one of my favorite areas of Kingston, where remnants of Kingston city’s industrial past rub elbows with 19th-century residential architecture. I love to drive around this part of Abeel Street and discover hidden pockets of charming homes, warehouses, storefronts, and fascinating landscape with craggy rock outcroppings that cradle Kingston’s south end to the east end along the west side of the Hudson River. If you look around enough, you’ll find ruins and caves. Here’s one I discovered in an undisclosed location not far from this church:
Aside from the church’s intriguing location, the building itself is striking with all of its original brick, stained glass windows, rafters, and stonework. Preserve this historic beauty and make it your next enterprise, all at the same time.
