A 200-Year-Old Carriage House in Forestburgh

  |  December 12, 2025

Today, Upstater is at a 200-year-old carriage house in Forestburgh that’s been thoughtfully rejuvenated.

The post-and-beam construction is honored still, yet elevated with modern touches that add comfort and convenience. So now, electric lights illuminate the twin terraces at the rear of the home.

This, actually, is the front of the house.

A pair of massive, French-inspired front doors open to a wood-lined great room.

Cathedral ceilings climb 20 feet tall, highlighted by an antler chandelier.

Glass-filled French doors anchor the opposite end of the open-concept space.

A modern kitchen is tucked within all of that wood.

Black granite counters sit on white, paneled cabinets. The center island’s “shingled” walls offer some whimsy.

The main-floor primary bedroom has wooden walls and a hardwood floor, following the rest of the home’s ethos. Minty green doors offset the grain-centric feel.

Floor-to-ceiling white tiles fill this main-floor bath, which has a slate floor and a glass-doored tub/shower.

French doors on the main level lead out to the top terrace…

…which is big enough, at 40′ by 12′, to host a party.

Heading up the interior staircase, you’ll find two bedrooms, each tucked off a catwalk. Original rafters give a vintage vibe to the space.

The second bedroom up here is similar to the first, except that it has only one wall with a window.

The lower level, leading out to the second, ground-level terrace, has French doors opening out from a slate-floored recreation room.

A stacked-stone fireplace anchors one corner of the rec room.

A laundry area has its own niche down here, too.

Sleek and tri-toned (green, white, gray), this bathroom is roomy and modern.

We’d never want to leave this rain-head shower system.

The bedroom on the lower level carries the wood ethos on its walls, with a slate floor to boot.

Exposed rafters and a flagstone floor set the ground-level terrace apart from its upstairs neighbor.

The house measures 2,450 square feet and sits on a 4.31 acre lot. It’s centrally located in a convenient part of Sullivan County: Within a 20-minute radius are the Forestburgh Playhouse, Resorts World Catskills, Kartrite indoor waterpark, Monster Golf Club, and Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, among other attractions.

The house is listed for $1,150,000.
