A Bang-for-the-Buck Goshen Home: $865K
Jane Anderson | June 10, 2024Goshen, NY, is Upstater’s focus this week. The county seat of Orange County since 1798 (before that, it was the “half-shire town of Orange County,” because Rockland County was part of it way back when!), Goshen has evolved into a manicured bedroom community.
Today’s house pick was built just over a half-century after that milestone—which means it is more than 170 years old. Its sturdy front porch and pristine white color scheme has stood the test of time.
Big black shutters protect the front-porch windows. The porch wraps beautifully around the house.
The foyer has the requisite center-hall staircase, although it’s in need of an update.
The other end of the hall shows off a door to the basement.
The current owner has a flair for color: This parlor’s fireplace wall is purple. A wall of windows is on one side, with a bookcase wall on the other.
Moody wallpaper mixes with moss-green and white paint in the dining room, which also has intricate inlaid hardwood flooring.
A screened porch is done up in modern black and white.
Inside, a butler’s pantry is a fine mix of cream paint and butcher-block pine.
The kitchen is modern and welcoming, with a mixed-wood island accenting the white cabinets and granite counters. Black and white checkerboard tile adds a vintage touch.
This image lets you appreciate the depth and height of the room.
The living room has white paneled wainscoting halfway up the wall, until teal paint takes over. The fireplace has Delft-like diamond tiles.
A gray gallery wall is a canvas for family portraits in the stairwell.
This green bedroom has a corner fireplace and a wall with a lot of windows.
Teal is the color of choice in this bedroom.
There are three and a half baths in the house. This one marries the teal theme of the previous bedroom, with a colorful curtain and a square pedestal sink above white penny tile.
Pale blue walls are a subtle backdrop in this bedroom, which also has a corner fireplace.
An arched shower stall makes an elegant statement in this bathroom that also has an oversized window to bounce tons of light off the blue/white tones in the space.
But wait, there’s more! A third story awaits.
Dramatic angles and purple paint splashes all around this bedroom.
A brick accent column breaks up the vibrant green in this peaked-ceiling bedroom.
Despite the colorful curtains, this bathroom maintains an air of elegance with its muted teal walls, a brown-and-cream clawfoot tub, and an antique dresser tucked into the dormer to accompany the white vanity.
The house measures more than 3,600 square feet. It sits on just over a third of an acre, yet the property still has room for this inground pool. It’s just down the block from Limoncello at the Orange Inn: Do take advantage of the happy hour there, to sip elegant cocktails and munch on curated charcuterie on the grounds of an inn where—as legend has it—George Washington himself took his leisure.
