A Beautiful Port Jervis Victorian

Upstater is at an absolute dollhouse in Port Jervis, Orange County, today.
From the fishscale-siding tower to the wraparound, columned, covered porch, this c.1880 Victorian is a gem.
A thick wooden front door opens to a welcoming foyer. Stained glass peeks shyly from behind a curtain.
What in the abacus-like woodwork is happening here? We are supremely impressed that this delicate woodwork has been impeccably maintained. And don’t miss the ornate metal carving on that radiator (on the lower right in this image), either.
The staircase is equally jaw-dropping.
More stained glass appears in the living room, which has pristine hardwood flooring and another ornate radiator.
Oh, let us correct ourselves. Judging from those carved radiators and this moody fireplace, this home very well may be one of our favorite home styles, an Eastlake Victorian.
Suspend your disbelief when entering the kitchen. It’s so saturated in white that it could be at home in a hospital (forgive our blatant honesty). Still, it’s fully functional, from its four-burner gas range to the wide-counter workspace and handy washer/dryer nook.
We bet the listed half-bath is behind that doorway.
You owe us a beer.
This half-bath is more modern than the home’s origin suggests, with a 1980s-esque, solid-surface white vanity.
Head up that beautiful staircase to the second floor, which fortunately has its O.G. elements preserved.
The white walls in this bedroom contrast nicely with a rich hardwood floor and open shelving.
A ceiling fan is a welcome addition in this room, which has what looks like a sweeping desk shelf positioned on the wall-to-wall carpeting.
We’re swept fully into the past in this lusciously appointed bathroom. That floor tile is to-die-for, and that heavy, paneled wainscoting is the perfect foil for a clawfoot tub. A turned-chrome-legged marble sink with twin taps is a drool-worthy bonus. Of course, there’s another stained-glass window here.
Moody green wallpaper plays well off the original chestnut trim in this bedroom.
The walk-up attic has dramatically sloped walls and tons of brick and wood accents. Hewing to the ethos of “everything deserves a little beauty,” there are stained-glass windows up here, too.
A solid-walled rear deck fits a small table and overlooks a fenced back yard. Steps lead to the grass-lined driveway.
A detached garage is super welcome.
The house measures just over 2,000 square feet and sits on about 0.13 acre. It’s right on the main drag in Port Jervis, and just around the corner from Ben’s Fresh for magnificent burgers. This move-in-ready home is listed at $410,000.
