A C.1870 Italianate in Cold Spring: $695K
Jane Anderson | October 8, 2024
Continuing our trek this week through Cold Spring, Upstater is right on Main Street today at a c. 1870 Italianate.
It has four bedrooms and 2.5 baths inside. The exterior has all the gingerbread touches you’d expect in a house of that era. A mansard roof is covered in scalloped shingles, and a two-story tower hugs one front corner.
The front porch has turned spindles along the railing, and decorative brackets that march along the roofline.
The natural tone of the front door repeats on the hardwood floor and the treads of the stairwell.
An arched, bay window adds beautiful detail to this living room. The tiled fireplace surround has a floral motif, and the mantel has carved, ornate decorations.
This parlor/TV room has tall windows and a French door…
…that opens to a nice dining room. The heavy drapery on the windows may need updating.
The kitchen, too, might need a refresh, depending on the new owner’s tastes. But its bones are good, down to a door that leads to a side porch.
Vintage white cabinetry is matched by white appliances.
At the top of the stairs, pass by an arched niche on the way to the second floor.
The listing says the house has four bedrooms, but shows only two: This one has a hardwood floor and plain white walls.
This one’s a bit more elegant, with a curved set of windows, because it’s situated in that corner tower.
The listing shows just one full bath, although it says there are 2.5 baths in the house. But this one’s a keeper, with wainscoted walls and a clawfoot tub.
The property measures under a tenth of an acre, but has pretty plantings and is just a half-mile to the riverfront and brunch at Hudson House River Inn.
