A Cabin in Phoenicia: Mountain views and a stream, too

  |  March 13, 2025

Rustic, but with clean lines.

Phoenicia is our location du jour, and Upstater is at a sweet green cabin in the heart of the Shandaken hamlet.

Darker-green shutters (and a welcoming pineapple!) accent the light-green siding of the home.

Exposed rafters rise to cathedral height.

Yes, there is wood on some of the walls and ceiling here, as well as the flooring. But trust that the treatment doesn’t fill the entire interior. The front door opens to a spacious living room, with a rustic stone fireplace filled by a wood-burning stove.

Under-eave shelves offer display potential.

The dining room is in its own sunny alcove.

Check out the piney accents on the stair risers.

Steep-looking stairs climb next to the kitchen.

The stair rails and spindles are tree limbs.

The kitchen is petite but functional.

More branchey limbs lead to the basement.

A dinette sits next to sliders that lead out to a deck.

An orange accent wall is bright, too.

A skylight brightens this bedroom on the second floor.

The trough sink in the vanity is a generous size.

The house has one bathroom; it’s done up in retro pink tile, with a shower stall.

Thee’s room for imagination here.

Knotty pine wainscoting below rims the green-painted walls in this blue-carpeted bedroom.

Two twin beds fit comfortably here.

The same treatment applies in this bedroom, which has beige carpeting.

Imagine this view in autumn.

The deck has verdant views; the 0.69 acre includes stream access. Plus, it’s just a mile and a half from the heart of Phoenicia and dinner at the Phoenician Steakhouse. Not bad for $495,000.
